The Sheffield Wednesday manager was without Fletcher’s services on Saturday.
Sheffield Wednesday hope to have Steven Fletcher fit for Saturday’s visit of Aston Villa, the Owls manager Steve Bruce has told BBC Radio Sheffield.
Fletcher, who is Wednesday’s 10-goal top scorer this season, was taken off during last month’s win against Blackburn Rovers and missed the weekend’s draw at Stoke City.
That is despite Bruce having claimed on Friday that the Scotland striker was in contention to feature at the Bet 365 Stadium.
But he is on course to return against Villa at Hillsborough.
“We’ll see how (Fletcher) is in the week,” said Bruce. “He’s trained today so hopefully he’ll get a good week behind him and he’ll be available for next week.”
Gary Hooper was handed a surprise start in Fletcher’s absence at Stoke and played 69 minutes after 15 months out of the first-team picture through injury.
Sheffield Wednesday also named Fernando Forestieri, Sam Winnall and Atdhe Nuhiu in their matchday 18, with another striker, Lucas Joao, missing out.
The Owls are now three points adrift of the play-off positions with seven games left of the season.
