Aston Villa currently sit in fourth spot in the Championship table.

Steve Bruce, Manager of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on April 17, 2017 in London, England.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce spoke to reporters ahead of his side’s Championship run-in, and predicted that they will need at least six wins from their final eight games, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of finishing inside the top two this season, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The Villans currently sit in fourth position in the Championship table, and are seven points adrift of second placed Cardiff City, having played a game more than Neil Warnock’s men, with less than a fifth of the season remaining.

The west Midlands outfit put together a fine run of form after their 2-1 defeat to Brentford on Boxing Day, and lost just one league game up until their back-to-back defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers last week.

Bruce explained that he has not given up hope of automatic promotion just yet, however, and suggested that his side need to win at least six of their last eight games to have a chance of avoiding the play-offs, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“We are capable of a winning run. We have just done it. We are probably going to need to win six of our last eight but it is possible. We can’t give up.”

Next up for the Villans is a trip to Hull City on March 31st, before they play host to Reading three days later, and nothing less than a return of six points from those games will do.
