Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has paid tribute to Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson ahead of England’s Euro 2020 final clash with Italy.
The Telegraph got people who are close to every member of Gareth Southgate’s squad to write them a touching message ahead of the huge game at Wembley.
Bruce gave Henderson his big break when they were together at Sunderland.
And could not speak highly enough of the England vice-captain’s attitude and professionalism.
“He has a great attitude, the way he conducts himself, it just goes to show what you can achieve. Liverpool captain, leading your country. Wow,” said Bruce.
“When he was an 18-year-old in pre-season training, he was dropping back on the long runs to encourage the older players and help them through it. He’s always had those leadership skills and that willingness to help others.
“He had this wonderful application and desire to learn and improve. But, by God, you would want a Jordan Henderson character in your team, no matter where you are or at what level.
“Watching him come on as a sub in the Denmark game and immediately start barking out orders to everyone. That’s Jordan.”

Henderson’s leadership and selflessness has come to the fore for England.
He’s been the same inspirational presence despite not playing regularly this summer.
That’s why Southgate took him to the Euros despite the fact he wasn’t fully fit.
He still hasn’t started a game but he’s made a big contribution and even got his first international goal against Ukraine in the quarter-finals.
