Bruce will hope to pick up his first win on Tuesday when Aston Villa visit Reading in the Championship.
Steve Bruce has told Aston Villa’s website that his new club’s record of winning matches is quite “alarming”.
Aston Villa have only managed one victory in 12 Championship games this season following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Under Tim Sherwood and later Remi Garde, the Villans managed only three top-flight victories last season en route to finishing rock bottom of the table.
Bruce, who replaced axed Roberto Di Matteo last week, missed the chance to secure a winning start to life at Aston Villa as his troops drew 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday – their eighth stalemate of the season.
They are nine points adrift of the playoff spots at the moment and the 55-year-old will be expected to get his side a lot closer to the top six by May, even though finishing there may be a big ask for him given Aston Villa’s start to the campaign.
But the former Hull manager has recognised a certain fragility within the playing staff and says their record of four wins from the last 55 league matches is simply worrying.
“We have now only won four games in 55 matches – which is an alarming statistic,” he told the club’s official website.
“It’s my job to find a formula to win, find a formula to be successful in the Championship. We have decent players here who are finding it difficult with the weight of expectation.
“We have to turn that around – that’s why I am here. That’s why I hope I will be here in a few years because we have to turn that around and stop the slide. A couple of wins would do that.”
Bruce will hope to make it five wins in 56 games on Tuesday when Aston Villa visit Reading.
