Newcastle United are without regular penalty taker Matt Ritchie due to injury.

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has suggested to the Sunderland Echo that his side are looking for a new first choice penalty taker in training.

With Matt Ritchie out injured, Newcastle need a new man to take their spot kicks.

And Bruce has been looking to his options in training to see which Newcastle player deserves to take over the duties from Ritchie, while he is sidelined.

It seems that Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden are all with a chance becoming Newcastle’s next penalty taker.

But Yoshinori Muto and Fabian Schar may have missed their opportunity.

“Joelinton took one in training the other day. Jonjo (Shelvey) and Isaac (Hayden) smashed them in the top corner, (Yoshinori) Muto and (Fabian) Schar missed,” Bruce said.

Ritchie could be out for a lengthy period of time, so Bruce needs to make sure he picks the right penalty taker for Newcastle.

In terms of finishing, Joelinton may be the best of the aforementioned trio who are still in the running, but there are no guarantees that he would hold his nerve on a match day.

Newcastle are next in action after the international break when they take on Liverpool.
