Josh Onomah joined Aston Villa on a season long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce addressed the media today during his pre-match press conference, and urged the club’s fans to get behind on loan star Josh Onomah, with the youngster going through a tough spell, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The 20-year-old joined the Villans on a season long loan from Spurs at the start of the season, and has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Steve Bruce’s side thus far, although he has managed just four goals and a single assist.
Some sections of the Villa fanbase have been getting on Onomah’s back recently, after a succession of below par performances, and Bruce urged the club’s fans to back the youngster when speaking to reporters today, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“Let’s not forget some of the really great performances Josh had for us. I hope they (the fans) realise we need them to encourage him and get behind him. He has come from Tottenham and we are forgetting he is the same age as Callum (O’Hare) and Keinan (Davis). He is young player, who needs help learning the game but has been involved 28 times, which is remarkable.”
Onomah possesses exceptional talent, and it is sometimes the nature of English fans and the media to be overly critical of our young stars.
If he is to fulfil his potential within the game, patience will be needed from both Villa and Spurs fans, as he continues to develop and evolve as a player.
Next up for the Villans is a home game against QPR in the Championship tomorrow, and that will represent a fantastic opportunity for Onomah to get the Villa fans back onside.
