Aston Villa beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the Express and Star that he thinks the play-offs are just too far away for the club despite another victory on Tuesday night.
After beating Norwich City 2-0 at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon, Villa were in action at home once again on Tuesday night as they welcomed Queens Park Rangers to Villa Park.
It took just the one goal to settle the game, as Jonathan Kodjia’s strike after just five minutes proved to be the winning goal for Villa.
Kodjia’s seventh goal in his last seven games handed Villa a seventh win in the last eight games, with each victory coming with a clean sheet for Steve Bruce’s men.
Tuesday’s result means that Villa now sit 11th in the Championship table on 57 points, nine points shy of Sheffield Wednesday in the final play-off spot.
With just six games to go, Villa would need a miraculous run of results – both their own and from other teams – to break into the top six, but it’s still mathematically possible.

After Tuesday’s win over QPR, Villa boss Bruce spoke to the Express and Star, and admitted that he genuinely think Villa have too much to do in the race for the play-offs.
Bruce did though added that there are usually ‘strange’ results at this point in the season, and with 18 points left to play for, Villa will keep fighting for the top six as long as it’s still possible.
“Genuinely, I think we have given ourselves too much to do,” said Bruce. “There are too many teams above us. If we were seventh, then it might be different. When the squeaky bit starts, you usually get strange results. There are still 18 points to play for and we will see what happens,” he added.
