Aston Villa’s Robert Snodgrass and Albert Adomah were both left out of Steve Bruce’s last starting line-up.

Steve Bruce has revealed on Aston Villa’s official website that Robert Snodgrass and Albert Adomah have ran further than any other player at Villa Park this season.

Adomah and Snodgrass were both left on the substitutes’ bench last weekend, when Villa took on Ipswich Town, with Jack Grealish and Josh Onomah starting in the wide roles.

And Bruce admitted that the change was made to ensure that both Snodgrass and Adomah got a well deserved break.

“It was an opportunity to have a look at something different.

“Robert Snodgrass and Albert Adomah have covered the most miles this season,” Bruce said.

“So I thought to give them a breather, because I also wanted to see Jack Grealish in a semi-wide area and Josh Onomah in a forward area. And they both did very well.”

Grealish and Onomah both caught the eye against Ipswich, as Villa won 4-0, so Bruce now has a selection dilemma on his hands.

Villa are set to take on Derby County tomorrow, as they look to keep their slim hopes of automatic promotion alive.

The claret and blues will need to win both their remaining matches, and hope that both Fulham and Cardiff City slip up, if they are to claim a top two spot.

In all likelihood Villa will be competing to go up through the play offs though, and Bruce’s foresight to give both Adomah and Grealish a rest could pay off in the promotion deciding contests.
