John Terry has endured a mixed start to his Aston Villa career, but stood out in his side’s latest match.

Steve Bruce has insisted to the Daily Star that John Terry will continue to get better for Aston Villa.

Terry has endured a mixed start to his career at Villa Park, but put in his best display so far for the claret and blues against Barnsley in their most recent fixture.

Villa beat Barnsley 3-0 at the weekend, in what was a hugely impressive display.

And Terry’s assured performance at the back was a major reason why Bruce’s side were able to pick up the three points in such a comprehensive fashion.

Bruce now believes that Terry has turned the corner at Villa, and insists that the veteran defender will only continue to improve as the season goes on.

“As stupid as it sounds, I think John will only get better,” Bruce said. “I’ve always thought bringing him in was a no-brainer.”

Terry had previously been exposed over his lack of pace in a Villa shirt, but he showed all his quality against Barnsley.

Villa will be hoping that victory over the Tykes can kick start their campaign, after what has been a slow start.

Bruce’s side are currently in 13th place in the Championship table – five points behind the play off spots, at this early stage.
