Newcastle United have started to strengthen their squad for the new campaign in recent weeks.

Newcastle have managed to get a host of new additions snapped up in recent weeks, with Bruce’s squad now starting to take shape.
The signings of Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin look particularly exciting for Newcastle, but they have also brought in Jetro Willems to improve their defensive options.
Newcastle have now plugged some of the gaps in their squad ahead of the new season.
But Bruce has suggested that his side are not done yet in the transfer window, even though he is very happy with the team that he has at his disposal at St. James’ Park.
“We’ve got one or two things bubbling away but if it closed tomorrow, I’m delighted with what we’ve done,” he said.
“We’ve spent a hell of a lot of money on two players, two quality players, which I think is the way forward rather than having six or eight. The way forward now, for me anyway, is quality and you can see a bit of quality in what we’ve brought in today.”

Bruce also suggested that he didn’t think that Newcastle’s business would have to be completed on deadline day, which suggests he is confident that the new arrivals will come in imminently.
Bruce simply has to start quickly at Newcastle, if he is to win over the doubters.
The Newcastle boss’s appointment did not go down well with the St. James’ Park crowd, and if Newcastle do not begin the campaign positively then the atmosphere really does threaten to turn toxic.
Bruce has a strike force which does certainly looks like a major threat, but there are still weaknesses in the squad.
Willems arrival helps improve Newcastle’s options at left-back, but another full-back would not go amiss.
Newcastle could also be left short in central midfield if injury strike, and if Joelinton does struggle, there is very little cover up-front.
Newcastle get their season underway with a match against Arsenal at the weekend.
