Mile Jedinak impressed for Aston Villa at centre-back in their last match against Sheffield Wednesday.
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has suggested that Mile Jedinak could become a permanent centre-back during his latest press conference, which was broadcast on the club’s official Facebook page.
Jedinak was brought to Villa as a defensive midfielder, but Bruce opted to play the Australian international in defence against Sheffield Wednesday.
Jedinak put in a solid display during that contest, as Villa picked up a 2-0 victory.
And Bruce has now suggested that 32-year-old could now perform a role in defence on a permanent basis, rather than as a covering option.
“Yes, I was mightily impressed,” Bruce said, when asked whether he would consider playing Jedinak at centre-back again.
“I’ve seen him play there once before, and of course going forward… He might not like me saying this, but he’s 33 next up, and 6ft 3inch in midfield. You don’t see many of them. It might be a natural transition [to put him at centre-back].”
Jedinak could now feature in Villa’s next match, which comes against struggling Wigan Athletic at the weekend.
Villa head in the contest in very good form, having won four of their last five matches.
If the claret and blues do manage to beat Wigan, they could overtake Barnsley and move up to 11th place in the Championship table.
