Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has suggested to the Northern Echo that Jamaal Lascelles, Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden could all miss out on playing against Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle are set to take on Tottenham at St. James’ Park tomorrow, and Bruce faces a struggle to get his first choice side out.
Lascelles, Hayden and Longstaff are all nursing injuries, which could leave Newcastle short in defence and midfield.
“We’ve got one or two injury issues,” Bruce said. “Jamaal hobbled off (at Watford) and I don’t think he’s going to make it. Isaac and Sean look like they’re going to struggle too. We’ve got one or two knocks but we’ll see how they are today.”
If Longstaff and Hayden are out, it could be that Fabian Schar continues to get the nod in midfield.
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has tested Schar out in a more advanced position recently but he hasn’t entirely convinced.
Lascelles’ potential absence is also a blow to Newcastle, as he is arguably their most reliable defender.
Newcastle’s backline could be tested against Spurs, who lined up in a more attacking 4-4-2 system in their last game against Arsenal.
If the Magpies are able to win against Spurs they could move up to 11th place in the Premier League table, if other results go in their favour.
