Aston Villa youngster Callum O’Hare has a bright future it seems.

Steve Bruce has told The Birmingham Mail that he has been left “very, very pleased” by Callum O’Hare’s pre-season performances for Aston Villa.

The 18-year-old looks a real talent, after impressing for Aston Villa during the off-season, and a first-team debut might well come his way at some point next term.

O’Hare was named in a matchday squad for a couple of Championship fixtures last season, but never made it on to the field.

Nevertheless, if Bruce’s comments are anything to go by then the Aston Villa starlet can feel optimistic about his first-team prospects this time around, with the veteran manager saying he’s delighted with the youngster’s “exuberance and energy”.

“You can see Callum O’Hare’s exuberance and energy immediately. You only have to watch him for a few minutes to spot that,” he told The Birmingham Mail.

“When you look at his body language, you can tell he loves the game of football.

“His infectious enthusiasm is there for everyone to see. We have been very, very pleased with him.”

As good as O’Hare can be, he won’t be involved for Aston Villa’s curtain raiser against Hull City on Saturday.

The Championship is an unforgiving league and Bruce needs to ensure that his charges get off to the best start possible as they hunt Premier League promotion – and to achieve that they cannot be relying on teenagers.

The Villans, under Roberto Di Matteo, had a horrendous start to the 2016-17 campaign and Bruce knows how difficult it is to recover from, with Aston Villa finishing 13th last term.
