Steve Bruce has told the Chronicle that he was very impressed by Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron, after seeing him play for the very first time live at the weekend.

Almiron came on as a substitute for Newcastle in their friendly against Preston North End, which they ended up losing 2-1.

The Paraguayan international actually missed from the penalty spot.

However, Bruce still saw plenty of promise in Almiron’s display, and he thinks that the 25-year-old could form a strong partnership with Newcastle new boy Joelinton in attack.

Bruce said: “The two of them (Joeliton and Almiron) will be a handful. After one minute, they combined, which could have won us the game.

“It was nice to see Miggy, it was the first time I have seen him live. He is a very good player.”
