The Newcastle United pair were among Bruce’s first signings as Sheffield Wednesday manager.

Steve Bruce could be without both of his Newcastle United loanees when Sheffield Wednesday welcome Aston Villa to Hillsborough on Saturday.
Achraf Lazaar has missed more than a month with a hamstring problem – suffered on only his second Wednesday appearance – while Rolando Aarons was injured during the warm-up at Stoke City last Saturday.
Lazaar returned to full training earlier this week, discussing whether the left-back and his Newcastle colleague will feature against Villa, Bruce told BBC Radio Sheffield: “The only one (of the Owls’ recent regulars) that is a slight doubt is Aarons. Everybody else is fit, which can only be a good thing for us.
“Lazaar’s trained all week but it’s obviously going to be too early for tomorrow. But he’s trained all week and back on the grass as well. So he’s proved a bit of fitness. But to throw him in, his last game was (Brentford) I think. It’s a long time. But hopefully, in a week or so, he’ll be available.”
Aarons has been one of Sheffield Wednesday’s most influential players in recent weeks, scoring one goal and making another in six starts.
Both players have two years left to run on their Newcastle contracts, although it remains to be seen whether either has a future back at St James’ Park.

Bruce also delivered ‘good news’ regarding the fitness of Sheffield Wednesday’s top scorer, Steven Fletcher, and revealed that Kieran Lee has come through a week’s training unscathed after last appearing for the Owls in December 2017.
