Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan is still yet to score for Steve Bruce’s side.

Steve Bruce has told Aston Villa’s official website that if Scott Hogan is out for a lengthy period of time it could have ‘huge consequences’ for his side.

Hogan was stretchered off during Villa’s 2-0 defeat against Newcastle last night, after twisting his ankle.

The striker jumped to try and compete for a header in the latter stages of the contest and landed awkwardly.

Hogan now faces scans later today to confirm the extent of the injury, and Bruce admits it will be bad news for Villa if the striker is out for the long-term.

“We fear the worst,” Bruce said.

“But we won’t know the full extent until the scans have been completed.

“The consequences of losing Scott would be huge.

“Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’s not serious.”

Hogan was brought to Villa during the January transfer window, but he has endured a difficult start at the Midlands club.

Hogan was Villa’s most expensive signing last month, but he is yet to hit the back of the net for the claret and blues.

If Hogan is out for the rest of the season, it only adds to Villa’s goalscoring woes.

Bruce’s side have been in terrible form in 2017, and currently sit just six points above the relegation zone.
