Albert Adomah has been in remarkable form for Aston Villa – it’s unbelievable that Steve Bruce had no place for him at the start of the season.
Few would have expected that Albert Adomah would be one of the first names on Aston Villa’s team sheet heading into the festive period, let alone one of the most in-form players in the entire Championship.
The Ghanaian winger found himself frozen out by Villa boss Steve Bruce at the start of the season and had to wait until September to be finally re-introduced to the starting XI – thanks largely to a serious injury suffered by homegrown wideman Andre Green.
Adomah, however, has seized his chance with both hands and has not looked back. Two goals in a Man of the Match display at Barnsley in September sparked the most prolific goalscoring run of his career.
Adomah is currently on 10 in 13 Championship starts – meaning he is already halfway to breaking a league record.
Only three non-strikers in the Championship’s history have ever scored 20 goals in a single season – Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham in 2009/10 as well as wingers Diomansy Kamara and Ricardo Vaz Te for West Brom and Barnsley/West Ham respectively.
On current form, however, there is no reason to believe that Adomah cannot match this feat – or even exceed it.
The 29-year-old has stepped up to the plate in remarkable style with Villa lacking a prolific centre-forward this season and, with Jonathan Kodjia set for a few months on the sidelines, Bruce will be hoping this purple patch continues.
Either way, Adomah has come quite a way from being left out at the start of the season.
