The Scottish striker has recovered from illness and will be looking to down Aston Villa.

Aston Villa take on Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship this weekend and Steve Bruce’s side are looking to keep pace with Cardiff city, who have increased the gap to third place to four points in recent fixtures.

But the Owls have been given a big boost ahead of the game, with the news that striker Jordan Rhodes is set to make a return to the first-team in time for the game.

Of course the Scottish striker is a player that Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is very fond of.

In January 2017 Aston Villa were looking to bring in a new striker and immediately Rhodes topped the list. a bid of £10 million was made, according to Birmingham Live, but Middlesbrough were holding out for more.

He was out of favour at Middlesbrough and Aston Villa manager Bruce pursued him throughout the winter window.

In the end Bruce did not get his man, as Villa were not prepared to pay the asking price for the Scotland international. They signed Scott Hogan from Brentford instead whilst Rhodes joined Wednesday on a loan deal, made permanent in the summer.

Speaking of that failed £10 million move in March last year Bruce stated, as reported by Birmingham Live:

“No disrespect to Scotty but he was cheaper.

“And in the end we went for him because I do believe his pace is a factor.

“I wanted to do something different with pace and Scotty Hogan has got that. His pace pushed me towards him.”

Rhodes, who has been ill recently, will now be looking to find the scoresheet against Villa – just as he did in the November clash between the two sides at Villa Park.

If that were to happen again and Villa suffered a similar defeat, it would be a particularly sickening blow for Bruce and Villa in their automatic promotion push.
