The Villa boss is bracing himself for a Ghana call-up for Adomah in January.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has admitted that the club would be left helpless if Ghana decide to call up in-form star Albert Adomah for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

Adomah has one goal and four assists in 12 appearances for Villa since joining from Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window.

After a solid yet unspectacular start to life in Birmingham he has improved in recent weeks, becoming a key player under Bruce.

The 28-year-old has not played for Ghana since 2015 but there are concerns at Villa Park that his impressive displays could be rewarded with a call-up for the January competition.

Bruce admits that he and the club would be left powerless to avoid losing the winger if this proves to be the case, but insists that his squad has enough depth to survive Adomah’s absence.

The Villa boss said, via the Birmingham Mail: “There is a possibility. We are aware of all situations. I have four weeks to think about the next four weeks and let me worry about that.

“If he gets called up there is nothing I can do about it. It is the form he is in. he is playing well at the minute, Albert. If it happens I am convinced we have a strong enough squad to cope.”

January could take a heavy toll on Villa. They look set to lose leading man and top scorer Jonathan Kodjia to Ivory Coast duty, whilst Jordan Ayew looks a certainty to be selected for Ghana.

Though Rudy Gestede will remain at Villa Park by virtue of Benin’s failure to qualify, Bruce suggested last week that fringe man Ross McCormack will be given the opportunity to come to the fore in the absence of his attacking teammates.
