Newcastle’s transfer business seems ready to kick into gear.

Joelinton of Hoffenheim celebrates his team's first goal during the Bundesliga match between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Hannover 96 at PreZero-Arena on February 16, 2019 in Sinsheim, Germany.

Newcastle United’s summer hit a low point yesterday with the underwhelming appointment of Steve Bruce coupled with a 4-0 friendly defeat to Wolves.

But there is reason to hope, with The Mirror reporting Newcastle are closing in on a record signing of Joelinton.

The Hoffenheim star may need to adjust to the Premier League, and Newcastle would be wrong to put all their hopes on him.

Steve Bruce is more used to dealing with a moderate transfer budget, and a smart move would be to push to sign his former striker Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck thrived under Bruce on loan from Sunderland and has improved as a player since joining Arsenal in 2014.

Now a free agent, the England international is an underrated bargain for somebody.

Why not Newcastle? Working with Bruce and the ambition of landing Joelinton might actually appeal to Welbeck.

Consider then, that Newcastle will have current record signing Miguel Almiron supplying the pair.

The Paraguayan is currently resting after the Copa America, and is due to rejoin the squad shortly.

A front three of Joelinton, Welbeck and Almiron is actually an exciting trio and would provide some hope to Newcastle fans, who fear Bruce will lead them to relegation.

Welbeck could be replaced by another striker, but he would provide a good balance with Joelinton and Almiron who are both inexperienced in the Premier League.

All is not quite lost at Newcastle just yet.

New Newcastle United signing, Miguel Almiron, is introduced to the media at St. James Park on February 07, 2019 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
