Aston Villa are interested in signing Sam Gallagher from Southampton.
Steve Bruce has confirmed to the Birmingham Mail at his latest press conference that Aston Villa want to sign Southampton’s Sam Gallagher, but there has to be a question over whether the young forward is any better than Bruce’s current options.
Villa have an enviable collection of forwards, who have previously proven their class at Championship level.
Bruce may have written off Ross McCormack’s chances of being a success at Villa, but he has previously proven to be a huge weapon in the second tier.

McCormack boasts a brilliant scoring record at Championship level, and his quality shouldn’t be overlooked.
Villa also have Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan, who are among the most feared front men outside the Premier League.
Kodjia was in superb form for Villa last term, and although Hogan is yet to show his best since moving to Villa Park, his quality has already been proven in a spell with Brentford.
Gallagher, meanwhile, is a very bright prospect – and his time at Blackburn Rovers proved that he can make an impact in the Championship.
Gallagher netted a credible 11 goals last term, but he is not the striker to completely revolutionise Villa’s front line.
And Bruce should concentrate on getting the best on what he already has at Villa Park, rather than looking elsewhere for solutions – as he constantly has during his time at the Midlands club so far.
