Aston Villa were hoping to secure a deal for Middlesbrough’s Jordan Rhodes.
Steve Bruce has confirmed that Aston Villa are close to signing two players in January, but a deal for Middlesbrough’s Jordan Rhodes is off the cards (The Gazette).
Villa are expected to announce the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury in the very near future.
And Bruce has suggested that the claret and blues could make further additions in the coming days.
However, after having an offer rejected for Rhodes, Villa feel that a deal for the Middlesbrough forward is now off the cards.
“We’re close to signing one or two others,” Bruce said.
“But we’re not close on Jordan Rhodes.
“It looks as though that’s run its course. We tried our best but it looks as if it’s not going to happen.”
Villa have made one addition so far this month, bringing in Sam Johnstone on loan from Manchester United.
Bruce is believed to have plenty of money to spend, with Lansbury’s arrival set to bolster his midfield ranks.
Villa are also believed to be closing in on signing Barnsley’s Conor Hourihane (Sky Sports).
Villa have been in disappointing form so far this season, and currently sit in 13th place in the Championship table, 10 points behind the play off places.
