Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack is reportedly on the radar of Sunderland.

Villa manager Steve Bruce reacts after a near miss during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Middlesbrough at Villa Park on September 12, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has suggested to The Birmingham Mail that there have been no offers for Ross McCormack.

McCormack has struggled to make an impact at Villa since his move from Fulham in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £12 million.

The Scotland international striker is not in manager Bruce’s plans, having spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and Melbourne City since 2017.

Villa manager Bruce has suggested that there have been no offers for the 31-year-old former Rangers and Leeds United striker, admitting that it is hard to move on him on.

Bruce told The Birmingham Mail when asked how Villa can offload their unwanted players, including McCormack: “You can’t. We’ve got to be realistic, the only time you can shift them is when somebody wants them.”

Boost for Sunderland?

According to The Daily Mail, Sunderland – who will play in League One next season after getting relegated from the Championship – want to sign McCormack on a season-long loan deal from Villa.

If the Villans are unable to find a buyer for the former Leeds striker and manager Bruce does not want him in his team for next season, then the Championship club will have to send him out on loan.

This could play into Sunderland’s hans and give them an advantage in their reported pursuit of the former Cardiff City striker.
