Newcastle United are reportedly considering Steve Bruce.
According to The Sun, Newcastle United are edging closer to appointing Sheffield Wednesday’s Steve Bruce as their new boss in a deal worth around £1million.
The Magpies saw Rafael Benitez walk away from the club at the end of his contract on June 30th, and he’s already become the new manager of Chinese side Dalian Yifang.
Mike Ashley must now find a replacement, and fans may not be too enthused by his top target, as it’s believed that Bruce is now emerging as the clear contender.
Bruce – a boyhood Newcastle fan – would allegedly jump at the chance to make his dream move to St James’ Park, despite publicly telling The Star that he was ignoring the rumours, and an approach is imminent.
In fact, it’s even stated that Ashley will make a shock decision by holding face-to-face talks with Bruce, something he very rarely did with Benitez, whilst Bruce’s Wednesday staff Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew would likely join him.
The 58-year-old is far from an exciting appointment if Newcastle do go through with a move, and that goes far beyond the fact that he managed bitter rivals Sunderland.
Bruce faded at Aston Villa last season, and whilst he lost just three games in 18 at Sheffield Wednesday, expecting him to make the jump to the Premier League now is a major gamble.
Fans will have been hoping for a big name or an exciting young manager after Benitez’s appointment, an they’ve got neither in Bruce, who will hope that his love for the club will eventually win over fans.
