Aston Villa remain firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Championship.
Aston Villa moved four points adrift of the playoff places in the Championship by beating Cardiff City 3-1 at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.
Albert Adomah’s 24th-minute opener for the Villans was swiftly cancelled out by Rickie Lambert as the Welsh side looked set to give Bruce’s side a game.
But Jonathan Kodjia restored the hosts’ lead shortly before the break.

Aston Villa tried and failed to build on their advantage throughout a tough second half, but Rudy Gestede’s injury-time penalty, after City’s Lee Peltier was send off for a second yellow card, finally put things to bed for the West Midlands outfit.
It was Villa’s fourth win in the seven Championship games that Bruce has taken control of in a run of form which has put them right back in the mix for a playoff spot.
And the veteran manager revealed to the club’s official website that owner Dr Tony Xia bought the playing staff a pizza last night as a congratulations.

“Apparently he’s in the dressing room buying the lads a pizza!” he told Aston Villa’s website.
“He wants to be picked next week and he’s got his wish – anything he wants! I spoke to him yesterday and I will go and enjoy a cup of tea with him now.”
