West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United last season.
The 28-year-old Norway international goalkeeper joined the Villans from FC Ingolstadt in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Birmingham Mail to be worth £1m.
The performances of Nyland have not been exactly great, as the goalkeeper has made mistakes from time to time in his seven Championship appearances so far this season.
Villa manager Bruce, though, has praised the Norwegian custodian, and has pointed out that it also took Sam Johnstone a while to adapt to the Championship.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper spent the second half of the 2016-17 season and the entire 2017-18 campaign on loan at Villa from Manchester United.
The former England Under-20 international joined the Villans’ Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion from United in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £6.5m.
Bruce told Villa’s official website about Nyland: “When Sam Johnstone first joined us, it took him a while. It does with all goalkeepers.
“He’s playing in England for the first time and much like Anwar El Ghazi, it’ll take time. The Championship is different – it’s difficult.
“But he’s an experienced goalkeeper and the longer he goes the more comfortable he’ll get.
“He’s desperate to do well. He never misses a session, is as brave as a lion and that clean sheet will do him the world of good.”
Back in action
Villa will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Villa Park in the Championship.
The Villans are eighth in the league table at the moment with 13 points from eight matches.
