Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has warned young striker Keinan Davis to keep his feet grounded after his brilliant performance against Barnsley.
Villa have made a stuttering start to their 2017/18 Championship campaign, and find themselves 13th in the table with 10 points.
They are undefeated in their last five Championship games, but won only two of them. After three successive draws with Bristol City, Brentford, and Middlesbrough, Villa returned to winning ways last week by beating Barnsley 3-0.
Davis has made five appearances so far, managing 372 minutes of action, and the Villa manager is delighted with his progress.
Against Barnsley, the 19-year-old took four shots, of which three were on target, made one key pass, and scored his first Championship goal of the season with a brilliant header.
The 56-year-old has urged the youngster to keep his feet on the ground. He added that the striker has all the attributes to be a top-quality number nine for Villa.
“He’s a bit of a throwback and he hasn’t come through all the nonsense of academies,” Bruce said, as quoted by The Birmingham Mail. “He’s had to fight, he’s had rejection and he’s come to us and it just shows you he’s not given up.
“He must keep his feet on the ground. He’s come from nowhere to play in the team and he’s been picked for England and I’m absolutely delighted for him.
“Over the years I’ve always seen Villa with a big number nine and hopefully he can be that number nine.”
