Steve Bruce has told the Daily Express that both John Terry and James Chester were brilliant for Aston Villa against Preston North End.

Villa won 2-0 at Deepdale last night, and their performance during the contest was highly impressive.

The claret and blues looked dangerous going forward, but they built their success upon the solidity of their defence.

And Terry’s and Chester’s performances earned high praise from Bruce after the match.

The Villa boss said: “I have to say that defensively we were excellent. The two centre-halves were terrific.

“You’ve got to have a decent defence and all season it gives us a decent platform.”

Chester actually gave Villa the lead against Preston, when he headed home a corner – and the Villans never looked back after that.

Bruce’s men put in one of their finest performances of the season to ensure that the three points returned to the Midlands, with Robert Snodgrass adding a second.
