Steve Bruce has come under pressure due to Aston Villa’s poor form in 2017.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has told the Express and Star that he is having to ‘mend’ what happened before him at Villa Park.
Villa have had a succession of disastrous managerial appointments over recent years.
Following the departure of Tim Sherwood, Remi Garde, Kevin MacDonald and Roberto Di Matteo have all taken charge of Villa – with limited success.
And Bruce believes that the bad habits picked up under his predecessors still need to be ironed out.
“Of what has happened before, we have to mend it,” the under pressure manager said.
“I’m not here to criticise, it is what it is. But it is going to take longer for me than four months.
“I’m in a disappointing situation, however, I’m confident we will turn it round.”
Bruce’s position at Villa has become uncertain, as the Midlands side have been in awful form throughout 2017.
Villa are yet to win a match this year, and were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United in their latest outing.
Villa have slipped all the way down to 17th place in the Championship table, and they are now looking over their shoulder rather than up the table.
The claret and blues are just six points above the drop zone, and face a tough game at the weekend against promotion chasing Derby County.
