Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has played in Steve Bruce’s side’s last two matches.

Steve Bruce has told the Birmingham Mail that Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has impressed him in training recently.

Hutton looked to have dropped out of Villa’s starting line-up recently, but he has fought his way back in.

The Scottish international defender was recalled to Villa’s team for their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and he impressed despite Bruce’s men falling to a 2-0 defeat.

Hutton went on to play again as the Villans managed to beat Fulham 2-1 last weekend.

And Bruce said: “Fair play to Alan he trains like every day is his last.

“When called upon, after being out for six weeks, he produced a performance, so fair play to him.”

Hutton now looks likely to remain in Villa’s first-team for their next match, which comes against Birmingham City at the weekend.

Villa go into the Midlands derby in good form, having won four of their last five matches.

The claret and blues have moved up into fifth place in the Championship table, and appear to be going from strength to strength.

Birmingham, meanwhile, are out of sorts – and if Villa do manage to beat Steve Cotterill’s side, the Blues could slip into the relegation zone.
