Steve Bruce changing formation looks good for Newcastle United duo

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is said to be considering swapping to a formation which incorporates four defenders.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce could be set to switch to a back-four, which should be great news for both Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle have started this season in a 5-3-2 formation, but the system has not got the best out of their players.

Almiron, who looked such a threat out wide last term, has been forced to start up-front, but the role has not suited him.

The Paraguayan international, who was signed for £21 million (Guardian), has struggled to make an impact, and has been required to carry the ball large distances up the pitch, with very little support from his Newcastle teammates.

If Newcastle do switch to a system which incorporates four defenders, Almiron will surely be able to switch back to his more familiar role though, and should be music to his ears.

Bruce could set his side up in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 shape and that would surely help Almiron get back to his best.

The former MLS star has already proven he can be a major threat in the Premier League, but there are massive doubts over whether he can perform as a central striker.

If Newcastle do alter their system it should also give Saint-Maximin a direct route into the first-team.

There was no obvious position for Newcastle’s new £17 million winger (Mirror) to play when Bruce was opting for a 5-3-2 shape.

But with more wide-men in the team, Saint-Maximin will surely be pushing for a start.

And the two Newcastle attackers must be delighted that Bruce is now considering making a change to his tactics.
