The Midlands side are slipping down the Championship table.
Aston Villa’s Micah Richards
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has sent out a public call for help from one of the club’s players, one who may surprise fans.
Micah Richards looked a good signing when he arrived from Manchester City in 2015. However, the 28-year-old has struggled to find his form and fitness since making the move to the club.
This season he has played just three times as he continues to battle a long-term knee problem. But his return is pending and Bruce has called on him to come back and rally the troops.
The Villa boss is quoted by the Birmingham Mail as stating:
“He has been back in training for a week after an ongoing problem with his knee, a complicated one. Certainly, I could do with him.
“I have to say around the place he is terrific.
“He went on a six-week programme so hopefully he stays right because his experience could prove vital.”
It may smack of desperation calling on Richards to save the day, but in fairness, Bruce is probably getting desperate.
Villa have lost their last four games and are winless since Boxing Day. The club are slipping down the table and the honeymoon period is well and truly over for Bruce.
Aston Villa’s Micah Richards
Richards is undoubtedly a player who gives his all on the pitch, but is also a defensive liability at times.
Aston Villa obviously feel he can add something for the rest of the season, but fans may be sceptical.
But they would be over the moon if he proved his doubters wrong.
