Steve Bruce has told Aston Villa’s official website that the problem with Villa’s new signings are that most of them are on loan.

Villa went into the summer transfer window with no money to spend on new players, and it wasn’t until a takeover bid went through that the claret and blues were able to do business.

That left Bruce largely having to bring in players on loan, with the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, Yannick Bolasie and Tammy Abraham all joining on temporary deals.

The signings helped boost optimism for the new campaign with Villa fans.

However, the team’s form over the initial part of the season has been concerning, with Villa stuck in 14th place in the Championship table.

Villa lost their last match before the international break 4-1 to Sheffield United, to ramp the pressure up on Bruce.

But the Villa boss insists that he just needs time to put things right. He said: “It’s like starting all over again. That’s the problem when you just use the loan market and you haven’t got the facility to make those signings permanent.

“We have to understand that it takes a bit of time and I’m convinced like last year the longer it goes the better we’ll become.”

Villa are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
