Steve Bruce has admitted at his latest press conference, which was broadcast on Aston Villa’s official Facebook page, that Alan Hutton was disappointed with his lack of game time prior to last weekend.

Hutton has regularly been overlooked by Bruce this season, with the Scottish international rarely featuring.

However, the 32-year-old was recalled to Villa’s starting line-up for the Claret and Blues’ last outing against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Hutton was required to start out of position at left-back, and although Villa slipped to a 2-0 defeat, the Glasgow-born defender still earned a lot of credit for his performance.

And Bruce said: “You can never write off Alan Hutton. He’s been here a long time and trains every day as if it’s his last.

“He was disappointed not to be playing, but he hasn’t done anything wrong.

“I was pleased with his performance last week, he played out of position, but he was arguably our best player.”

Whether Hutton will keep his place in Villa’s team for this weekend remains to be seen.

The experienced defender may feel that his performance against Wolves warrants another start, but Bruce has plenty of other options.

Villa will be looking to bounce back from defeat to Wolves when they take on Fulham.

Villa have improved of late and they have moved up into seventh place in the Championship table.
