Aston Villa are set to take on Fulham in the play off final on Saturday.

Villa manager Steve Bruce reacts after a near miss during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Middlesbrough at Villa Park on September 12, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has admitted on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 23rd May, that he has major doubts over whether Ahmed Elmohamady will be able to play in the play-off final.

Elmohamady has picked up a knock, and it remains to be seen whether he will recover in time to play at Wembley.

The Egyptian missed the second leg of Villa’s play off semi-final against Middlesbrough, and is now in a race against time to be fit for the weekend.

Bruce said: “The only one I’ve got a real major doubt on is Elmohamady. Whether he’ll recover or not, the next couple of days will be vital. The rest are all flying fit.”

If Elmohamady does miss out it will be a blow for Villa, as the veteran may well have started, had he not picked up an injury.

In his absence, it could be that James Bree is given the nod to start at right-back for Bruce’s side.

Villa go into the play off final against Fulham as the underdogs to win, but they do have a great deal of experience in their squad.

Fulham have one of the most dangerous attacks in the Championship, but Villa have the likes of John Terry, James Chester, Alan Hutton and Robert Snodgrass, who are all used to the big occasion.

Villa have not played Premier League football since 2016, and are desperate for a return to the top tier now.
