Tottenham Hotspur enhanced their Premier League title credentials greatly today.

Tottenham Hotspur beat high-flying Manchester City 2-0 at White Hart Lane this afternoon to move one point behind the Premier League leaders.
Aleksandar Kolarov’s ninth-minute own goal gave Tottenham the perfect start, before Dele Alli fattened Spurs’ advantage on 37 minutes.

Their lead could, and should, have increased shortly after the hour mark, but Erik Lamela’s penalty was saved by Claudio Bravo.
Still, Mauricio Pochettino’s side would have taken victory by a two-goal margin before kick off, and that was precisely what they got.
The Lilywhites also earned the distinction of being the first side to beat Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League, with the red-hot Sky Blues winning all seven of their previous league outings this season.

Former Tottenham man Steve Archibald reacted gleefully on Twitter afterwards, while another ex-Spurs figure, Gary Lineker, poked fun at the knee-jerk nature of modern-day football by calling for Guardiola to be sacked following the defeat.
With the Premier League now set for a two-week hiatus, it was a perfect way for Pochettino and co to go into the international break.
The Argentine can only hope that all of his players return from international duty unscathed as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season by visiting West Brom in a fortnight’s time.
