There has been talk of a recall for Sheffield Wednesday’s on-loan Tottenham Hotspur midfielder
Steve Agnew has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur’s Josh Onomah will return to Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.
Onomah was injured in Wednesday’s win at Middlesbrough on Boxing Day and returned to Tottenham, from whom he is on loan for the rest of the season, for treatment.
The midfielder has endured a stop-start spell in Sheffield, and though his fortunes are expected to improve under the Owls’ new management team – which will be led by his former Aston Villa boss, Steve Bruce – an early recall has been considered by Bruce’s Spurs, counterpart, Mauricio Pochettino.
But according to Agnew – who has been placed in interim charge of Sheffield Wednesday until Bruce’s arrival next week – Onomah will be back at Hillsborough shortly, and slightly ahead of schedule.
“It is (a little bit sooner than he expected),” Agnew told the Owls’ official Facebook page. “He had scans at Tottenham and obviously they wanted to make sure that everything was back to normal. They’re happy with him – Tottenham are happy with his progress, and they’ll send him back up on Monday morning.”
Agnew also confirmed that Matt Penney has undergone shoulder surgery and could be out until mid-April, after the Wednesday wing-back posted cryptically on Instagram this week.
