Rhodes is currently on loan from Sheffield Wednesday from Norwich City.
The new Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager, Steve Agnew, has insisted he won’t be discussing with Jordan Rhodes a January return to Hillsborough.
Rhodes, who left Wednesday to join Norwich City on a season-long loan ahead of the campaign, is Agnew’s nephew.
The latter has taken caretaker charge of the Owls until February 1, when Steve Bruce will assume control.
And speaking via Sheffield Wednesday’s official Facebook page on Friday, Agnew claimed he has had no involvement in transfer discussions since his arrival earlier in the week.
“I’ve certainly not had any of those conversations. I’ve left that with Steve Bruce and the chairman (Dejphon Chansiri),” he said. “I’m just here to try and improve results and the team’s performances out there on the coaching field.”
Asked if he’s been on the phone to Rhodes about cutting short his Norwich spell, Agnew added: “No, absolutely not. That’s not for me!”
The Norwich manager, Daniel Farke, was also asked about Rhodes’ future on Friday, but suggested the 28-year-old will remain at Carrow Road until the summer.
“Steve Bruce is an experienced coach and knows how helpful Jordan could be on this level,” he told the Canaries’ official website. “It could be that they want him to return, but Jordan committed to us for the whole year and we don’t want to let him go.”
Rhodes became Sheffield Wednesday’s club-record signing upon his arrival from Middlesbrough two years ago, but has only scored 10 goals in 55 games for the Owls.
The Scotland international is already just two goals shy of that tally at Norwich, for whom he has played slightly less than half the amount of games.
