Celtic still haven’t appointed their new manager – but Eddie Howe remains a key name in the mix.
The Bhoys saw Neil Lennon resign in February, but have yet to find a replacement for the Northern Irishman.
Howe has been the main name linked in recent times, but no deal has yet been done for him to make the move to Parkhead.
Give Me Sport now report that Howe’s representatives have told Celtic of their interest after failing to impress Crystal Palace.
Howe has been out of the game for almost a year having left Bournemouth last summer upon their relegation from the Premier League.
It now seems that the Englishman is indeed interested in the Celtic job, and fans will just hope for a swift resolution after nearly three months of rumours.
Celtic defender Stephen Welsh has now offered his view, telling The Herald that it’s natural for players to be trying to impress the next potential manager.
Welsh talked about Howe by name, suggesting that he fits the criteria for Celtic having been a ‘fantastic manager’ at Bournemouth, adding that the rumour is ‘exciting’ as the Bhoys squad seemingly prepare for Howe to arrive.
“I think it’s natural to think they will be watching if you have an idea a new face is coming in,” said Welsh. “You want to go out and prove how good you are, prove you should be in the team next season. That’s all you can do as a player.”
“Obviously, Eddie Howe was a fantastic manager for Bournemouth over the last few years. He fits the criteria. He plays good football from what I saw so it’s exciting more than anything,” he added.
