Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock spoke to the club’s official website about Kostas Tsimikas.
The Reds confirmed the signing of the Greek international for £11.75 million from Olympiakos earlier this week (Sky Sports). Tsimikas is expected to provide support to Andy Robertson at left-back, but the 24-year-old will be aiming to dislodge the brilliant Scot as soon as he gets an opportunity.
Warnock, a left-back himself, seems very impressed by Tsimikas. The former Liverpool defender feels that the Greek full-back’s style of play is very similar to that of Robertson, which should help him settle in very quickly.
He said: “He’s very similar to Robbo: his crossing ability is really good, that’s arguably his strongest point, but then he’s almost like an old-fashioned winger who has been converted into a full-back – he can beat players in one-v-one situations.
“I think with the work Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards do, they understand that they are trying to buy to fit in the system and for me, he fits in it really well.
“I think he will only improve playing at Liverpool because you are playing with the best players in world football. You’re playing for the best team in the world so you are naturally going to get better day in, day out, training with the best players.”

Can Tsimikas become as good as Robertson?
Robertson suffered relegation with Hull City before moving to Liverpool a few years ago. Not many people expected the Scot to become one of the best in the league. But he has done incredibly well to be one of the first names on the team sheet for the Reds.
Tsimikas will likely start the campaign as a backup to Robertson but that, by no means, should dishearten him. Liverpool played 59 games in all competitions last season, and it is likely that they will feature in about the same number of games next term, especially if they take their cup matches seriously.
The Greek full-back will get opportunities to prove himself and, if he does well, he will push Robertson to the limit for a place in the starting line-up. That can only be a good thing for Liverpool, who will have to be at their best to retain their Premier League title next season.
