Aston Villa could reportedly lose striker Tammy Abraham to Wolverhampton Wanderers this month.
Stephen Warnock has expressed his ‘worry’ for Aston Villa if they lose striker Tammy Abraham and stated the Holte End ‘needs a favourite’.
Sky Sports are reporting that Chelsea loanee Abraham is close to joining Wolves on loan, which would mean cutting his season-long stay at Villa Park.
The 21-year-old has netted 16 Championship goals for the Midlands club this season, with Dean Smith’s side sitting outside of the playoff places.
Abraham’s potential departure could derail Villa’s promotion push as they have struggled to find consistency in a season which resulted in the sacking of Steve Bruce.
Former Villa left-back Warnock offered his thoughts on the club’s current situation and the importance for them to have ‘a big striker’ up top.
“The worry for me is that they could potentially lose Tammy Abraham,” Warnock told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live. “That’s a worry because we know for Villa it is so important to have a big striker up there.
“You need a favourite at the Holte End. That’s what he [Abraham] has become recently.”
In recent seasons gone by the likes of Christian Benteke, John Carew and Juan Pablo Angel have led the line for Villa in the Premier League.
Since their relegation to the second tier of English football, the likes of Jonathan Kodjia and Lewis Grabban have played the forward role in a successful manner, but no-one has been able to match the scoring of Abraham.
If Abraham does join Wolves then Smith has Scott Hogan, who started his first game of the season against the Swans and Kodjia to fill the void left by the Chelsea man.
