A foul on Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos proved to be an important moment in the clash at Ibrox on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard’s men stormed to the stunning win over Motherwell that leaves them just two points off the Scottish Premiership summit heading into the international break.
Rangers largely dominated the game from start to finish, but seemed to be helped by the red card that McHugh received, with the second yellow coming as he blocked Andy Halliday’s shot with his hand inside the penalty area.
Robinson had no complaints about that caution, but felt that he should not have been on a yellow in the first place. The Well defender caught Morelos after the Colombian had already released the ball, but Robinson felt that the striker had forced the referee to book McHugh by going to ground and conning the official.

“Certain players get away with certain things every week. They (referees) have a hard task.
“If you are getting fooled every week all the time then it’s difficult for them. It wasn’t a free-kick in the first place, it certainly wasn’t a yellow card.”

While Morelos’ reaction could be deemed to be slightly over the top by some, McHugh’s challenge is certainly clumsy and he does appear to make an additional movement towards the striker after the ball has been released that vindicates the decision to award the free-kick.
But with Rangers clearly determined to make amends for their defeat in the Europa League on Thursday, even the most optimistic Motherwell fan would struggle to argue that the red card was the reason that they lost at Ibrox as a heavy defeat looked to be on the cards from the very early stages.
