Celtic have been linked with Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell.
Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell has told The Scottish Sun that he doesn’t know where rumours about a move to Celtic have come from.
O’Donnell, 27, has enjoyed a fine spell with Kilmarnock, kicking on under former boss Steve Clarke to become Scotland’s first-choice right back over the last year.
With Clarke now his Scotland manager, the position appears to be O’Donnell’s to lose, and he’s being linked with a move away from Rugby Park this summer.
The Scottish Sun recently noted that Celtic would be keen to bring O’Donnell back to the club if Neil Lennon was appointed permanent manager – which has now happened.
Celtic desperately need right back options this summer, as veterans Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa are both out of contract and look set to leave, whilst Anthony Ralston doesn’t look ready to be first-choice.
Adding a consistent performer may be what Lennon is looking for, and O’Donnell – who came up through the Celtic ranks before being released in 2011, ironically under Lennon – may fit the bill.
Now, O’Donnell has responded to the rumours, writing it off as mere speculation as he knows nothing about a potential move, even if it’s flattering to be linked with different clubs, with Celtic no doubt the biggest.
“I’m going everywhere apparently,” said O’Donnell. “Motherwell is quite handy to get to, I guess! It’s flattering to be linked with these clubs, but I’d love to know the sources sometimes,” he added.
