Stephen Kelly has sent a message to now former Rangers teammate Andrew Dallas on Twitter after Cambridge United announced that they have signed the striker for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal.

Dallas’ future had been up in the air for a little while after the links with the League Two side emerged. Many Rangers fans would have probably been expecting Steven Gerrard to allow the 20-year-old to leave on loan for the coming season, but that has proved to not be the case.

Dallas scored regularly for Rangers’ reserves and had been loaned out on a couple of occasions, including to Greenock Morton during the most recent January transfer window.

Nevertheless, Gerrard has seemingly decided that he does not expect Dallas to force his way into the first-team picture at Ibrox as he has sanctioned the youngster’s permanent exit.

It is likely to disappoint some of the Rangers supporters who would have been hoping that Dallas may get the chance to kick on and perhaps get one or two first-team appearances under his belt during the coming season.

And someone else who clearly had conflicting feelings about the announcement was Kelly, who took to social media to comment on the announcement. The midfielder – who himself is set to spend the season on loan at Ayr – suggested that he was pleased for Dallas, but admitted he is sad to see him go.
