Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Jake Hastie to Ibrox this summer.

After working with the winger during a loan spell earlier in his career, Stephen Findlay is backing Jake Hastie to become a star at Rangers should Steven Gerrard bring the winger to Ibrox this summer, in comments reported by the Daily Record.

Hastie is one of the most highly-rated youngsters currently coming through in the Scottish Premiership, having scored six goals in his last 10 games for Motherwell. Unsurprisingly, his form appears to have caught Rangers’ eye.

And while some of the Ibrox faithful may feel that they need to see more before they are convinced about Hastie’s potential, Findlay – who managed the 19-year-old during a loan spell at Airdrie last season – insisted that he has the talent to become a top player for the Gers in the future.

“Even when he was with us we were told there were big teams chasing him so it doesn’t surprise me he is being linked with Rangers,” he said, as reported by the Record.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard looks on during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Hibernian and Rangers at Easter Road on March 08, 2019 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

“His time at Airdrie and Alloa has obviously helped him get real knowledge of the game. I’d encourage every kid to go to League One and League Two,” he went on to add. “Go and get first-team games and don’t get stuck in the Under-20s. Jake did it and has had a remarkable rise and now has the potential to go and become a star at Rangers.”

It is a big claim to suggest that Hastie could be a star with Rangers in the future, especially when you consider how many wingers are already at Ibrox.

If he did join this summer, the teenager would have a lot of competition for a place in Gerrard’s side. He perhaps has the potential to move ahead of several of those players in the coming years, but he would have plenty to prove.

But Findlay is clearly confident that Hastie has all of the attributes to become a major success at Rangers if Gerrard decides to pursue a summer move and manages to get the youngster through the door at Ibrox.
