Phil Parkinson will reportedly be appointed as the Sunderland manager.

BIRKENHEAD, ENGLAND - AUGUST 17:

Stephen Elliott has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Sunderland’s reported decision to appoint Phil Parkinson as their new manager.

According to The Telegraph, Parkinson will be officially announced as the Sunderland manager on Thursday.

It has been reported that the former Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers manager has got the nod ahead of Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth due to his experience of “managing at big clubs with high expectations in League One”.

Former Sunderland forward Elliott has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the Black Cats reportedly set to appoint the 51-year-old as their new manager.

Promotion challenge

Sunderland have not made a great start to the season, but the Black Cats remain in a very good position to challenge for automatic promotion to the Championship.

The Black Cats are ninth in the League One table at the moment with 19 points from 11 matches, eight points behind leaders Ipswich Town and four points behind second-placed Wycombe.
