Stephen Elliott has suggested on Twitter that Jack Baldwin is struggling to deal with the pressure at Sunderland.
The former Sunderland forward made the comments following the Black Cats’ 2-2 draw with Accrington Stanley at the Stadium of Light in League One last Friday evening.
Elliott has outlined some of the mistakes Baldwin – who can operate as a defender or as a midfielder – has made this season.
The 25-year-old joined Sunderland from Peterborough United in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by The Sunderland Echo to be worth £200,000.
Baldwin has made 29 appearances in League One for Sunderland so far this season, scoring two goals in the process, according to WhoScored.
Promotion push
Sunderland’s recent results and performances have not been great, and it does appear that Jack Ross’s side could miss out on the automatic promotion spots.
The Black Cats are fourth in the League One table at the moment with 59 points from 31 matches, 12 points behind leaders Luton Town – who have played 33 games – and six points behind second-placed Barnsley, who have played 32 times.
