Grant Leadbitter has been made the new Sunderland captain.

Stephen Elliott has suggested on Twitter that Grant Leadbitter should not have been made the Sunderland captain.
Sunderland manager Jack Ross has said, as quoted in The Chronicle, that Leadbitter will wear the captain’s armband following the departure of George Honeyman to Hull City in the summer transfer window.
Jon McLaughlin was the skipper for the Black Cats in their 1-1 draw with Oxford United at the Stadium of Light in League One at the weekend.
Ross, though, has said that 33-year-old midfielder Leadbitter will be the regular skipper, as quoted in The Chronicle.
Former Sunderland forward Elliott, though, does not think that ex-Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough midfielder should be the captain of the Black Cats as he is not a regular in the starting lineup.
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Leadbitter made 15 appearances in League One for Sunderland last season.

The Black Cats reached the League One playoff final last season, but lost the big game at Wembley Stadium in London.
Ross’s side will be determined to finish in the top two of the League One table this campaign and clinch automatic promotion to the Championship.
