According to the Chronicle, the Ireland Under-21 international has returned to Turf Moor after his loan spell with the Jam Tarts ended in January and Burnley are intending on letting him go on loan a second time.

This time, it is believed he will remain in England promotion-chasing Sunderland are set to land him in the coming days. Ex-Sunderland striker Elliott has backed his old club signing Dunne.

Former Ireland international Elliott also used to play for Hearts, where he will have been impressed by Dunne’s impressive rise into the first team after Christophe Berra suffered a long-term injury.

Dunne is now set to rival the likes of Jack Baldwin and Tom Flanagan for a place at the heart of Jack Ross’ defence in their bid to gain promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.
