Stephen Elliott has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Sunderland’s failure to win against Peterborough United away from home on Monday afternoon.

Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw with Peterborough at the London Road Stadium in League One.

Max Power put the Black Cats in the lead in the 87th minute, and Matt Godden restored parity for the home team in the first minute of injury time.

The result means that Sunderland are fourth in the League One table at the moment with 84 points from 43 matches.

The Black Cats are four points behind second-placed Barnsley, who have played 44 games.

Sunderland can still achieve automatic promotion from League One to the Championship at the end of the season, but for that to happen, Jack Ross’s side will need Barnsley to drop points in their final two league fixtures of the campaign.

Former Sunderland forward Elliott was following the match, and he has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the result, and has suggested the main reason why the Black Cats may fail to clinch promotion – too many draws (18).

Meanwhile, former Sunderland striker Marco Gabbiadini has also taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the draw for the Black Cats, and has written: “The Lads absolutely drained after that kick in the g*****! @SunderlandAFC just lacking that little bit of composure and calmness at both ends of the pitch, but effort and commitment not in doubt!”
